March is National Athletic Training Month

Athletic trainers (also known as ATs or ATCs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled healthcare professionals who specialize in preventing, diagnosing, and treating musculoskeletal injuries and illnesses. Their scope of practice typically entails primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergent care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

Many athletic trainers work as sports coaches for student athletes. Others work in hospitals, gyms, medical clinics, or for pro sports teams. At RockTape, they’re seasoned veterans of the sports medicine business, well-rounded in their niche and gifted educators.

The National Athletic Trainer’s Association requires continuing education to maintain athletic training licenses. As BOC approved continuing education providers, our education team consists of a select handful of multi-faceted functional movement pros — including some very special ATs.

There’s no better time than right now to formerly introduce the four athletic trainers that put the AT in our A-Team. Meet our movers and shakers of sports medicine — the athletic training pillar of the RockTape Functional Movement Training (FMT) education crew, instructors: Mike Stella, Dr. Ethan Kreiswirth, Mitch Hauschildt and Dr. Jaime Mor.

Mike Stella, ATC

Mike Stella MA, ATC, PES, CES

We know and love him for his signature hat and beard combination, and “End of The Ice Age” tirades on Instagram. Long Island-based social media sweetheart Mike Stella is a born leader and AT advocate.

When faced with the limitations of the traditional Athletic Training professional model, I decided to become an entrepreneur. Today I own a concierge manual therapy, movement, and recovery center in Farmingdale, NY called The Movement Underground. I’m honored to inspire the next generation of ATs in pursuit of their own businesses, as a way to elevate the impact of the profession that I love.

Dr. Ethan Kreiswirth PhD, ATC

One of the OG RockTape education crew. Equal parts muscle, energy and brains, this doc brings the party everywhere he goes! If he’s not nerding out with Capo about pain science at RockTape HQ or jamming on his guitar, it’s safe to assume he’s out there wrestling someone.

There is so much to share about the connection between skin and the brain. The brain interprets tape on skin in so many different ways on different bodies. I’m fascinated with the concept of hacking the brain’s perception of pain and reframing it.

Dr. Jaime Mor DPT, ATC

This rare PT/ATC hybrid hails from New York, but has since settled in the suburbs of Philly. When he’s not traveling the USA preaching the functional movement gospel, he’s sharing ingenious physio and performance hacks on Instagram and his podcast “The Movement Project.

Too often we’re taught to just look for what hurts and treat the symptoms. The only way to make long term/lasting change is to get to the cause of the issues and treat the REASON while ALSO treating the complaint.

Mitch Hauschildt, MA, ATC, CSCS

Mitch Hauschildt MA, ATC, CSCS

He’s an MSU athletic trainer and longtime FMT instructor. When he’s not training athletes or jet-setting for RockTape FMT, he’s leading the way for Multiple sclerosis fighters everywhere — raising awareness and funds for the Tisch MS Research Center of New York. As an athletic trainer, he shared his journey marathon training through relapsing remitting MS on behalf of Team Tisch. Meet the unstoppable Mitch Hauschildt, ATC.

I’ve learned so much from this community. Dr. Perry changed my life when I took my first RockTape course with him. He took a chance on me and inspired me to teach. Tony Mikla for his business and training methodology. Adam Wolf changed my perception of movement. Joe LaVacca is an expert on pain and how our emotions impact it. Dr. Shanté Cofield opened my eyes to the movement universe on social media, and gait expert Dr. Courtney Conley completely changed the way I view the foot.

This crew is still changing the lives of clinicians every given weekend.
